-
The minimum you must remember is.
One Secret Date and One Secret Password.
-
Use the web address (URL) when generating passwords
for normal low security sites...
If you need a password for a site that you have just stumbled across
then use the URL. When you return to the site it will be shown on the
page or on the browser so you wont have to remember it. For example
www.sitename.co.uk - Include the bit before the "site
name", it may be www. or it may be a server name.
-
... Or use a name you have chosen for the password?
If the password is for a computer account or an Email account or a
site where security is more important. Then don't use the URL use a name
you can remember. It could be the account name, login name or some text
associated with the logon page.
-
When you first discover this site - Play with it.
Enter a Secret Date and Secret Password, and a "Used for"
value, and produce a few passwords, you will then understand how the
password producer works. If ALL three boxes are the same you will get
the same password. If any of them are changed you will get a very
different password. Make sure you understand that if any of the three
values are different, the password will be different.
-
You can use a Different Secret password and Date for
every password.
You don't have to stick to the same password and memorable date to
generate every password. This site can also be used to convert two words
and a date into a password. In this way human readable words can be
converted into a non readable password. This is usually done by people
who use memory tricks to help them remember things, for example- Think
of you sister when you think of a given site, enter her name date of
birth and hair colour, to generate a password.
Some people associate a website with an historic event to generate the
keys for the encoder.
